Argument

Assertion: Should drinking age be lowered to 18?

Evidence-Concrete Detail
  • Lowering drinking age would help stop underage drinking in colleges.
    • Commentary 1: As a student, I think it would help stop teenage driving accidents as well.
    • Commentary 2: I also think it would help teenagers gain some responsibility.
  • Licensing people 18 to 20 years old after taking 42 hours of alcohol warning and training classes, as well as a 3 hour AA session.
    • Commentary 1: It would help to educate young people to the dangers of alcohol and alcohol abuse.
    • Commentary 2: If they still decide to drink, they won't do it as dangerously.
Opposing Claims/They Say:
  • Some claim lowering the drinking age would cause more harm to our young people and cost the government more to stop them from drinking.
My Rebuttal/I Say:
  • Nevertheless, I believe it would stop underage drinking and young people would take more responsibility in their drinking.
My Paragraph
Lowering the drinking age would help stop underage drinking in colleges. As a student, I think it would help stop teenage driving accidents as well. I also think it will help teenagers gain some responsibility. Licensing people 18 to 20 years of old after taking 42 hours of alcohol warning and training classes, as well as a three hour AA session. It would help to educate young people to the dangers of alcohol and alcohol abuse. If they still decide to drink, they won't do it as dangerously. Some claim that lowering the drinking age would cause more harm to our young people and cost the government more to stop them from drinking. Nevertheless, I believe it would stop underage drinking and young people would take more responsibility in their drinking. Thus, I believe, if given the oppertunity, lowering the drinking age will send a positive message to our young people saying we trust them as full adults at eightteen.

My Thinking:
I think this paragraph is based mainly on deductive reasoning.
